It was a SPOOKtacular week! We read lots of spooky stories, Runaway Bunny - and the parody Runaway Mummy, Goodnight Moon and the parody Goodnight Goon. Our art projects on Monday were working on our cutting skills-thumbs up and open shut them on a black line.
Tuesday our project was to glue mini marshmallows on our paper to make ghost, we had to use our pincher or alligator fingers like when we hold a writing utensil.
Wednesday was so much fun. We made witches brew it had cobwebs (chex cereal), pumpkin drool (cheetos), pumpkin eyes (doritos), ghost droppings (popcorn), skeleton bones (veggie straws), skeleton bone glue (mini marshmallows), ants (raisins), beetles (m&m's), snake eyes (craisins), bat wing bones (fritos), chicken toenails (candy corn), and witches fingernails (bugles).
The class wrapped up the week by starting a new month. A new month means a new page in our person book we are making for graduation.

Little Old Lady
This week we read, The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything. On Monday, we worked on our coloring with fine point markers. There were a lot of pieces!!!! After we colored, we glued the parts together to create our SCARECROWS.
Tuesday was our field trip to Hermanson's Pumpkin Farm! There was soooo much to do. We reviewed how a pumpkin grows with Farmer Ferrell. It was just like we learned in class. There were all kinds of animals and we even were able to feed the goats leaves. We also saw goldfish, kittens, chickens, rabbits, donkeys, lamas, a calf and a pig. We went through the spooky barn maze and had a wagon ride.
Wednesday we read Wild Things, then we cut a shape for our wild thing, glued on eyes, nose and mouth and colored them. I hope you enjoyed them!
To finish up the week we made a book to help retell the story of The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything.

Harvest
More fall fun with a focus on pumpkins. Monday we read Spookley the Square Pumpkin, we learned that it is okay to be different. That being different can save the day. We worked on three part patterns. Our patterns were made up of red, yellow and blue shapes, in the shape of triangles, squares and circles. Each student had their own pattern to complete. This was tricky!
Then on Tuesday we were scientist and cut open a pumpkin and learned the different parts of a pumpkin. The stem, vine, leaf, then the skin or shell, pulp and seeds. As, scientists we then labeled the parts of the pumpkin.
Wednesday, the kiddos made books about the life cycle of a pumpkin. The cycle starts with a seed, that is planted in the ground. A sprout emerges from the soil, grows into a vine, with leaves. With water and sun shine yellow flowers grow. At the base of the flowers, small green pumpkins start to grow. They grow bigger and bigger and eventually turn orange.
We end the school week by creating jack o lanterns. We had a lot of cutting to do. They will be displayed in the classroom in quilt format.
Friday FUN day we had our Family Outreach event to decorate pumpkins. The families had choices to create mummys, polk a dot, glow in the dark puffy paint or crayon melting. Afterward families could create and decorate a scarecrow by cutting out paper and gluing it on or coloring. Thank you everyone who could make it. There will be more events through out the year.

Here are some fire safety items we talked about:
On Wednesday the fire fighter and fire trucks came for more fire safety and a fire truck tour.
Here are some fire safety items we talked about:
- Are your smoke detectors working? —check monthly!
- What is an emergency? When to dial 9-1-1
- Don’t run! STOP, DROP, AND ROLL!
- Have fire extinguishers available
- Crawl on the ground, smoke rises
- GET OUT & STAY OUT!!
- Have a meeting place outside where you can meet safely. Practice your plan.
- NEVER play with fire, matches, or lighters
- NEVER EVER, hide from fire fighters! YELL, I AM HERE! I AM HERE!

Thursday the classes had a guest teacher, Mrs. Witt and worked on their core strength by coloring dalmatian dogs on their tummys.
It was a great week and we able to capture some learning through play pictures as well.

Signs of Fall
Our first week of October! The signs of fall are all around us. On Monday, we started our month of with our person drawing. We sang our Mat Man song while drawing. They did such a nice job.
Tuesday, we made beautiful leaf sun catchers that are decorating our front door and window. They look awesome! If you were able to make the open house, you saw how beautiful they are.
Then on Wednesday we did texture rubbings. We used leaves and texture tiles. The Super 4Kers used fall colored crayons to rub and create a whole picture of texture. My friends brought these home on Thursday.
Thursday was a fun day of painting. All the artists in our class love the paints. We hung these up in our class room where our Mat Man pictures were. (If you didn't get your Mat Man or Family tree we sent them home in the red folders on Thursday).
