Traditions 2

We had our second week of traditions.  It has been really nice hearing about all your families traditions.  Boating, fishing, putting star on the tree, seeing Santa, just to name a few.  We worked on lacing to start the week and decorated a tree like the Russian spider.
For  Hanukah we had another spider teach us that it last 8 nights and saw the candle holder, called a menorah and saw dreidels.
We then strung cereal for the animals and decorated our evergreen tree by the playground for the animals.

Here are some more photos of our loose parts finger gym and other learning centers.

Traditions Week 1

Hope your having a healthy, jolly start to December.  We are learning about winter holidays from around the world.  We started with Evergreen trees this week and found out they are evergreen's, because the stay green all year round.  We read stories about evergreen trees that became decorated, like some of us do for Christmas, for animals.  Here are some of the trees we made this week.  We will have them up at the Holiday Sing and you can bring them home from there.

St. Lucia, is the patron saint of light and in Sweden students have a parade to celebrate.  They wear mostly white and wreaths on their heads with candles.  Your child should have brought them home but here are some pictures of them.

We worked on our book about ourselves and started an alphabet book.  We used crayons and watercolors.  We can't wait to share them at the end of the year.  Here are some photos of centers where the kiddos created with the loose parts.   Looks so cool!

Thankful and The Little Red Hen

This was a short week packed with a lot of fun.  Monday we finished up shapes with the, heart.  Very fitting since we talked what we are each thankful for.  Some of the things we were thankful for: Mom, Dad, Family, Grandma, Grandpa, friends, toys,  and playing.  Hope you enjoyed your child's shape book, they worked very hard and it. We will be starting letters and creating a page for each letter in for the rest of the year.

The Little Red Hen is a great story about working together and how to be a good friend.  We retold the process of baking bread.  We had fresh baked rolls for snack with cinnamon butter.  (Along with our daily snack).  It was YUMMY.

And of course we made a hand print turkey.   The kids really enjoyed getting the paint on their hands and describing the wet, slimy, warm, cold feeling of the paint.  Hope you had a great Thanksgiving Break.
