Winter!

Monday, we celebrated the Chinese New Year. We learned that it is customary to clean the house for the new year to get rid of the bad luck from last year. Red is the color used to decorate because it is believed to be lucky. We made colorful dragon puppets too!

On Tuesday we made ourselves wearing snow suits like the one in The Snowy Day book. These are in your child’s red folder.

We all enjoyed our day off on Wednesday!

Thursday we made “stained glass” mittens, which are decorating our classroom windows. You can see pictures on the blog.

Friday we painted snowmen from laundry detergent and added all sorts of embellishments. It was a great winter week!!!
We made edible snowmen for snack on Friday!
These snacks were almost too cute to eat!
Our Spotlight Student in the afternoon class brought colorful cupcakes as a special treat. We couldn't resist posting pictures of these adorable frosted faces!!!!

UPCOMING EVENTS
On Thursday, February 2nd, we will wear our clean pajamas to school! No stuffed animals or blankets this time please...it’s just a PJ day not a teddy bear day.

We will be having our Friendship Party during class on Tuesday, February 14th.  Please have your child write ONLY his/her name on each valentine. This will make the passing out process much less complicated!  Start sending as soon as your child is finished writing their name. We have 20 friends in each  class. You are welcome to send special treats/snacks that day. We recommend take-home goody bags or non-sugary snacks as we usually receive plenty of cupcakes, cookies, etc. Don’t forget to make your own Mailbox! See newsletter for more info.

Conferences will be held in March. Please return the blue sign-up sheet that is in your child's red folder ASAP! Thanks!!!

Polar Pals

On Tuesday we made our own Tacky the Penguin.

Tacky always wears a Hawaiian shirt :)
We have read three Tacky books now. Mrs. Fox is does a great Tacky singing rendition…”OOOHHH, How many toooes does a fish haaave?” If you have a chance to get a Tacky book at the library, your child will love to read it with you!

Wednesday we made polar bears and used our fine motor skills to stretch cotton balls. It was hard work! These bears are decorating our hallway.

Walrus puppets were so much fun to make on Thursday.

We also did a winter polar pals obstacle course since it was too cold to go outside. We shoveled, ice skated, did polar bear sliding, penguin walking and snowman building.

Fine motor skills were challenged again on Friday as we turned socks inside out and stuffed them to make into baby seals.
Ice Fishing Fun!

Nice hot pizza on a cold, polar day!
Remember! No school on Wednesday! We have school on Friday...again!

A Royal Week

We spent the week learning all about royalty. We made our own knight's shields, water colored castles, bejeweled crowns and fancy goblets! We also enjoyed the royal themed toys in our classroom, including the Little People Castles, block castles, dress-up area, tea party area and more.
Royal Tea Goblet
Our Royal Tea Party was an absolute blast! See our photo gallery page for more photos.

AM Class
PM Class

Next week we will begin our winter theme. The weather today is right in line with our new theme!! Because of the costumes we did not got outside and enjoy the snow, but we will definitely do that next week so be sure to pack ALL snow gear for your child.

EXPOSURE NOTICE!!! Please note that your child may have been exposed to the chicken pox and head lice. It is important that you watch for signs of either and let us know ASAP if your child develops any.

We are in need of more snacks for the upcoming months. Please send enough snack for two days to serve 20 children. The first ingredient listed on the ingredients list cannot be sugar or high fructose corn syrup (like in fruit snacks). Individual serving packages are not necessary.

Remember, NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY! We do have school on Friday :)

Dragons & Dinosaurs

We had a great week last week! We began by drawing a picture for our person book. We added confetti and streamers to welcome in the new year. Tuesday we matched dinosaur sizes to their skeletons and on Wednesday we got to use the bingo daubers (we sure love those things!) to match the number of spots to the corresponding number on each dinosaur page.

We made dinosaur skeletons which are decorating our hallway on Thursday. Friday was the best day ever! We got to be archaeologists and dug out dinosaurs from plaster. Be sure to view the pictures on our gallery page.

We also have all sorts of royalty related items in our classroom! It's so much fun to arrive for a new week and see what changes have been made to our classroom.
