December Holidays and Traditions from Around the World

We are learning about other countries and families and discussing what holidays/traditions are celebrated. We started the week off with some Gingerbread puppets, since so many cultures make treats for their holidays.  Then on Tuesday we made reindeer paintings, they are decorating our room.  Many families celebrate a form of Christmas.

Then we talked about Hanukkah-

To wrap up the week, we learned a little bit about Dwali and created a paper lantern. Diwali, or Dipawali, is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness.

Here our some photos that capture a little bit of our fun we had learning this week.

Elf & Evergreens

We started our traditions around the world.  This week we introduced the elf, his name is Sparkles and he loves catching our kids doing great things.  We learned that Christmas Trees come from evergreen trees.  St. Nick was the end of our week and we learned about stockings.
