Holiday Traditions

This week we started talking about traditions around the world. We have learned so many interesting things. We have also been working really hard on our projects this week. Some of our projects will decorate our stage next week at our Holiday Sing (psst, it's Wednesday the 20th at 5:30pm) and one of our projects is a top secret mystery project that we hope you will love!

Please remember that books for the Holiday Book Exchange are due on MONDAY DEC. 18TH. Your child should bring one book that is wrapped and has a label with only his/her name on it.

The Night Tree

This week we started our unit for December on Traditions and Holidays around the world.  We will talk about Kwanza, Hanukka, St. Lucia, La Posada, and of course, Christmas.  We also discuss that some friends do not celebrate any holidays, not even birthdays.  We started with our book, The Night Tree.  It is a wonderful story of a family that goes out every year and decorates an evergreen tree for the animals with edible ornaments.  This is why we went out to Silverwood.  We sang holiday songs, decorated trees for animals to enjoy and had hot chocolate.  It was really cold out there!

This set of photos, we are making night trees by sizing different colored strips of paper.  These will be decorating the stage for our Holiday sing, on Wednesday, December 20, 5:30 pm, at St. Joseph's Church-lower level.

A Short Magical Week

What a magical (short) week in 4K. We talked about the story ‘Abiyoyo’ this week. On Tuesday we made our own magic wands. We had to use our strong finger muscles to bead for this project. On Wednesday we made a magic rabbit hat, has your child pulled out the magic rabbit for you? Thursday we talked about magic beans in the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and made our own beanstalks with a picture of ourselves.

If you thought about getting teacher gifts this year, please consider purchasing an item from our classroom wish list instead. Below is a picture with a few items on our classroom wish list.

Have a great weekend!

Pajama Day Fun!

What a fun way to finish up our Goldilocks and the Three Bears Unit.  We had a pajama day, with stuffed animal friends.  First we made a beaded bracelet/collar for ourselves or our stuffed friend.  We worked really hard to string them and make a 3 part pattern.  Then we went under the tables or as we called them, our "Bear Caves" to color pictures under the tops of the tables.  This was really difficult, we had to use new muscles to do this work.  What a fun day!

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

Beary fun week!  We made large jointed bears that the legs even move on, and they are decorating our classroom.  We had more tummy time work, this is hard to hold my head and neck up, while laying down.  But man this builds core strength.  Lots of fun was had retelling the stories of Goldilocks.  We also worked on sizing our bears into large, medium and small categories.

We had so much fun at our Halloween Party with all of our friends. Check out the pictures below.

Fun at the Pumpkin Patch

We had so much fun on our first class field trip! We took a bus and visited our friends at Hermanson Pumpkin Patch. The kids enjoyed seeing the farm animals, taking a tractor/wagon ride, and the spooky barn! The pumpkin patch is still open for the season, you can visit their website at: http://hermansonpumpkinpatch.webs.com/ . Check out some of the pictures from our fun adventure.

Reminder that next Tuesday, Oct. 31st is our costume party!

Spookley Family Event

I really enjoyed visiting with all the families who were able to make it on Friday. The children had heard the pumpkin, Spookley. He was different and not all the pumpkins in the patch were nice to him. That is until he saved the day. We learned it is okay to be different. Go ahead and read the story of Spookley the Square Pumpkin. It's on YouTube. Thank you for all who came and enjoyed painting pumpkins and making scarecrows. Look for our next event in November. It's a Block Party at Central Lutheran Church, with a magician.

Exploring Signs of Fall

This week we noticed signs of fall. The changing colors, falling leaves and pumpkins. We enjoyed making orange leaves with red and yellow paint. It was fun to learn about crayon rubbings. We put leaves under our paper and rubbed over the top with the side of the crayon. Then we took textured plates and did rubbings of those. Our owls made with leaves, hanging in the classroom hallway were a real "hoot".

Stop, Drop, and Read About Our Week

This week we talked about fire safety. We started the week with a "fire drill" here at school, ask your child where our safe meeting place is (It's outside by the mailbox). We also put a lot of focus on the phrase "Get Out and Stay Out" instead of Stop, Drop, and Roll. If the kids take anything away from this week, we want it to be that they should get out of the fire quickly. Our projects this week required a lot of fine motor skills, we did some painting, coloring, and even cutting! On Wednesday the local fire dept. came to visit us. Check out some pictures from our fun week!

 4K PM Super Friends
 4K AM Super Friends
Congratulations 4K'ers!  We have had a SUPER first month of school.  We have been working on getting to know friends and their names, the routines of the day, cleaning up after ourselves, pouring our own milk/juice/water from a pitcher, following directions, lining up on a line, waiting our turn, sharing and being a SUPER 4K'er!
The first week of school we enjoyed getting to know one another.  It was great fun to explore the room and all the centers.  Outside was a blast.

First Day of School

Sorry for the delay in pictures but our old system of uploading pictures was not working so we have found a new method to share our 1st day photos with you!   Hope you enjoy and we are on our way to a routine of uploading weekly!

We Heart this Week

On Monday we worked on a three part pattern with hearts. Some of our friends need help with patterning, you can work on patterning at home when opportunities arise such as snack time.
We had so much fun giving/receiving valentines with friends on Tuesday. We also enjoyed many yummy treats, thank you to those who sent these in! You can check out our cute mailboxes on our Photo Gallery Page .
Wednesday we created heart collages. These projects are a favorite because the kids are creating similar yet unique projects.

On Thursday we worked with paint to create a hand-print heart tree. These works of art are decorating our classroom.

A Furry Fun 4K Week

Monday we drew our self portraits for our Person Books. The kids have been including much more detail in their pictures.
Tuesday we worked on cutting and sorting. We made our projects on the floor to work our tummy muscles. This is hard work!

We brought the paint out on Wednesday and used Q-tips to create an iguana. The Q-tips we used had to be opened like a band-aid. This was great fine-motor work.

Thursday we made adorable hamsters in a ball. Did you just love them?!?!
REMINDER: Our Valentine Party is on Tuesday Feb. 14th. If you haven't sent in your Valentine mailbox or valentines, please do so ASAP.
