Down on the Farm

This week we learned about farm animals. On Monday we made a pig from a circle, oval, and triangles. These little piggies are decorating our hallway.

We made roosters on Tuesday...we love projects that let us use colorful feathers!!

Wednesday we learned about the chicken life cycle. We don’t have an answer as to which came first, the chicken or the egg, so you will see that our cycle is a never-ending circle.

Thursday was our day off this week and when we returned for class on Friday, we watercolored a picture of Barn Yard Friends from the Helme Hein Friends series. These are decorating our classroom and we sent home the heart collages for you to decorate your homes.

We sent home a Seuss character in your child's red folder for him/her to decorate for our March bulletin board in honor of Dr. Seuss' Birthday on March 2nd. Don’t forget to have him/her cut it out and write their own name on it!

Fun With Friends

We started our week with paper dolls that look like us for a friends bulletin board in our classroom. The afternoon class got to enjoy the afternoon off due to the snow.

Tuesday we created a quilt square with a picture of us and a friend doing something we like together. These are hung in our hallway and you can see a picture on our website.

We practiced cutting while creating Friend”SHIP”s on Wednesday. We had straight lines and curved lines to cut on.

Thursday we created a special friendship bead/charm on “shrink-dinky” material and baked them to shrink.

Beading Friendship Bracelets
Friday we made friendship bracelets using beads and then we exchanged the bracelets with our classmates.

HEART Week!

Monday we stamp painted with heart-shaped cookie cutters. Each painting is so unique! These are displayed in our classroom.

We made woven hearts on Tuesday. It was VERY hard work to do opposites...over, under, over, under and the next strip under, over, under, over, etc. It was an excellent project for building fine-motor skills.

Wednesday we made a special valentine for you. Each one is completely unique and made with love. :) Have you received it yet or is your child hiding it until it's officially Valentine's Day?

We had a great time on Thursday passing out our Valentine’s to each other. Everyone’s mailboxes were decorated so wonderfully! Check them out below.

Thank you to everyone who brought in special snacks for our party and special valentines for us teachers! You give us the "warm-fuzzies" ;)

Don't forget that next week Friday we have a make-up day for one of our cold days, so we have FIVE days of class next week! Be sure your kiddo gets some extra rest so we can make it through our long week!!!!!

Pets!

Sorry we missed the blog post last week...with only two days to do our four day's worth of work, there just wasn't time! We hope that you are all staying warm during this never-ending extreme cold!!! So on to this week's highlights...

Monday we made adorable hamsters in a ball. Did you just love them?!?!

Tuesday we created furry dogs on a leash which required a lot of fine motor skills to squeeze skinny snakes of glue and then cover them with yarn pieces.

We did a lot of cutting on Wednesday to create a whimsical cat that can hang by it’s tail on a doorknob or from a nail.

Thursday we decorated goldfish and made a mini-fishbowl for them.

We had a lot of fun playing in our veterinarian area with all the animals and doctor kits too!

A couple of the days this week we were even able to finally go play outside! We definitely need the fresh air and space to run. Please be sure to send ALL of your child's winter outerwear every day just in case it gets warm enough for us to go out.

~ REMINDER ~
We will be having our Friendship Party during class on Thursday, February 13th. If your child hasn’t  already brought in his/her valentines and mailbox, please be sure they are here by Wednesday!!!
Please have your child write ONLY his/her name on each valentine. We have 18 friends in each class.
You are welcome to send special treats/snacks that day. We recommend take-home goody bags or non-sugary snacks as we usually receive plenty of cupcakes, cookies, etc.
