Abracadabra!

We learned about an African Folk Tale called Abiyoyo.

It is about magic, music, and understanding.  Mrs. Fox even performed some fun magic tricks this week!! We even have magic related things in our dramatic play area.

Monday we watercolored a picture of Abiyoyo.  On Tuesday we made ourselves and a giant along with a beanstalk after reading the Jack and the Beanstalk story. We made our own magic hat and rabbit on Wednesday. Did your child pull a rabbit from the hat for you? We experimented with color mixing to make new “magic” colors on Thursday.

Don’t forget that next week we only have two days of school and we will not be sending home red folders/newsletters.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

Bears, Bears & More Bears!

We worked on a number of bear projects again this week. On Monday we created a bear that showed the five senses: bells that we can hear, google eyes to see, a scented cotton ball for a nose to smell, a piece of gum as a tongue to taste,  and fuzzy paws for feeling.

We worked on position words in a bear book on Tuesday. It also helped us learn about colors and shapes.

We made a bear hibernating in a cave on Wednesday, which was hard work...especially using our fine motor skills to pinch and pull the cotton balls to spread them.

Thursday we created sleepy bears that are now decorating our classroom.

Don't forget to send winter gear for your child EVERY day. It's cold!!!! Winter coat, hat, mittens are a must! Snowpants and boots are recommended too.

Three Bears & Pajamas

We worked on a lot of math skills this week featuring Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We made a three-part pattern using characters from the story. We sorted items from the story by size and practiced writing the words small, medium and big. Finally, we sorted pictures into the correct sequence to retell the story.

Since we had to come to school on a Friday, we made it special by having a pajama day. We even laid on the floor to do some of our work!

Next week is going to be super cold so be sure that your child has a winter coat, hat and mittens (no gloves unless he/she can put them on themselves). You want to also send snow pants and boots to help keep your child warm and comfortable. We will go outside everyday whether they have all their gear or not.
