Down on the Farm

This week we have been working on a number of projects that you will be seeing at conferences. Monday we made a pig book that has positioning words such as before, above, behind, in, below, on, under, etc. Tuesday we made a rooster that involved fitting pieces into the specific spots, like a puzzle. It was a great small motor skill builder.

On Wednesday we learned some new size words like big, bigger, biggest and small, smaller, smallest. It was very difficult to avoid using the word medium! We sorted farm animal families into size categories. This is another project that you will see at your child’s conference.

Thursday we read There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and made a set to retell the story. Finally, a project to take home this week!

We have lots of fun activities coming up in March. The first of which is our Career Dress Up Day on Friday, March 2nd! Remember we don't have school on Thursday, so be sure to make yourself a note to remind you of dress up day.

Friendship Fun!

Monday we made You Caught My Heart Handprint Valentine’s for our moms and dads.

We had so much fun exchanging valentines at our friendship party on Tuesday. Thank you to everyone who brought in extra treats and goody bags. The kids LOVED them & teachers did too.

We also made a friendship chain, that is hung up around our classroom.

These were our awesome valentine mailboxes. Each one was so unique and creative! Thank you for all your hard work.

On Wednesday, we made stained glass hearts by melting crayon between pieces of wax paper. It was hard work to peel and break the crayons!

Thursday we made heart collages to decorate our classroom. We took down the Tacky penguins and sent them home. Did you see the cute Hawaiian shirt he was wearing?

Friday was a bonus day of school for us. We made paper dolls to symbolize our friendships. These are displayed in our hallway. You are always welcome to come in and see the creations displayed in our room!

We are missing several letter and show & tell bags. Please check around your house and if you finds any, bring them back please...we are running out!

Also, don't forget that your child needs an extra set of clothing in his/her backpack each day. Spills, accidents, and using sleeves to wipe runny noses are very common occurrences here that require kiddos to change into clean clothes. Thanks for your help!

Have a great weekend!

We Love Pets!

This was a fun week! Our dramatic play area was switched over to a veterinarian clinic/pet shop! We got to adopt dogs, cats, mice, hamsters, and birds. There were medical supplies for helping injured animals and a cash register and money to pay for services and new pets.

We also had some pet dogs added to our housekeeping area.  We will get to enjoy the pet shop next week as well.

On Monday we made a dog or a cat with three-part-pattern stripes...you will get to see these at conferences, but here is a sneak peak.

Our morning class enjoyed a visit from a furry friend!

Tuesday we made hamsters along with their running wheels, water bottle and bedding. These critters are decorating our hallway.

Wednesday we made our own little fish ranks, complete with rocks, seaweed, shells and a fish!

Thursday we got to create a pretend pet! We used paper towel tubes, pom-poms, pipe cleaners and googly eyes to create a critter of our choice.

We will be having our Friendship Party during class on Tuesday, February 14th. If your child hasn’t already brought in his/her valentines and mailbox, please be sure they are here on Monday!!!

Opposites & Groundhogs

Wow!!! What a warm week! Needless to say we haven’t been able to build our ice sculpture...our colored ice is colored water right now.

Monday we made an edible porcupine after reading the book called, A Porcupine Named Fluffy.

We painted a magic picture on Tuesday...the light crayon message was written on light paper and then we painted it with dark colors. Did you see the secret message?

On Wednesday, we made another picture of ourselves for our “Person” books that you will receive at the end of the year. The details that we are seeing in the drawings compared to the beginning of the year are amazing!

Thursday we made groundhogs with shadows in celebration of Groundhog Day.

Jimmy the Groundhog did not see his shadow so there should be an early spring. If it had been the OPPOSITE...if Jimmy did see his shadow, then we would have 6 more weeks of winter. We also wore our PJs to school as part of our opposite week!
One friend brought in a cute groundhog treat for us! Teddy grahams popping out of mini muffins. Thank you!
Valentine/Friendship Party Coming Soon!
If your child hasn’t already brought in his/her valentines and mailbox, please bring them in sometime next week. Please have your child write ONLY his/her name on each valentine. We have 20 friends in each class.
