Pumpkin Fun

We had so much fun learning about pumpkins this week! We learned that pumpkins start as seeds and then grow into sprouts. The sprouts turn into vines and on the vines grow flowers. These flowers develop into little green pumpkins. Then the green pumpkins grow into the big (usually orange) pumpkins that we can carve into jack-o-lanterns.

Monday we made a book about pumpkin growth. Did your child “read” it to you?

Tueday we visited Hermanson's Pumpkin Patch. Our fieldtrip was a blast! It was the first time on a school bus for several of our friends and they all did a great job riding safely. At the farm we saw animals including goats, donkeys, llamas, a calf, a pig, a sheep, bunnies, and cats. The morning class got to go on a wagon ride, although we didn’t get the usual view of the pumpkins growing due to the muddy conditions. In the afternoon it was too muddy after the noon downpour so we weren’t able to go on a wagon ride at all. The Hermanson’s gave us a coloring book for each of the afternoon kiddos to make up for the missed ride and this is in your child’s red folder.

We saw pumpkins that were orange, white, yellow, striped, bumpy and more! There was a spooky barn maze too. When we clapped really loud we made ghosts fly, cats meow, and witches cackle. Check out our photo gallery page for pictures of the fun. Thank you to all the chaperones who joined us, your help was very much appreciated!!!!!

Wednesday we created a diagram of pumpkin parts and labeled them. These “science” experiments are decorating our classroom. We even cut open a real pumpkin to see what’s inside and had the opportunity to help scoop out the pulp and seeds during playtime.

Thursday we read a book called “The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin”. It told the story of a square pumpkin that saved the day. We then created our own unique pumpkins of any shape, size, color, and pattern. We made a pattern of unique pumpkins to practice our math skills. You will get to see your child's pattern at conferences.

The firefighters made it back to visit our afternoon class on Thursday too! You can view photos of both firefighter visits on our photo gallery page as well.

Our Super Week of Friendship!

Monday we decorated our handprints using bingo daubers. The daubers are always a favorite in our classroom and offer a fun, different way to paint. These handprints are now decorating the bulletin board in our classroom. You can see this in person during our open house on October 2nd.

Tuesday we made a friendship chain. It took lots of small motor skills to color in the small letters and cut on the lines!

We learned about wax resist on Wednesday when we colored the land of our Earth with green crayon and then painted over it with blue watercolor paint. We then added a pattern of boys and girls.

We wrapped up the week with our Super Hero Dress Up Day and it was...Super! You can see pictures on our photo gallery page. We talked about how each one of us are super, that we all have different talents, and together we make up a super class!

Kissing Hand & Families

This week we read another Chester the Raccoon story that told about how mommies and daddies never run out of kisses and love for their kids, no matter how many kids they have.

On Monday, we assembled a Chester the Raccoon and these are decorating our classroom.

Tuesday we watercolor-painted an owl like the owl teacher in the story. We glued the handprint trunk of our family tree and added leaves for our family members to the tree on Wednesday.

Thursday we put our family photo on our family tree. These creations are now decorating our classroom too.  Your original photos were returned in your child’s red folder this week.

Remember, next week we come to school for five days...Monday through Friday! We also have picture day on Friday!!

We've had a fun first week!

Our week has been so much fun! We are beginning to learn the routine of a school day. A lot of skills are being developed already including direction following, turn taking, staying in line, sharing, manners, listening, sitting still and much more. These are huge accomplishments in a room full of energetic 4-year-olds. We are so proud of all the kids!!!

This week we learned all about Chester Raccoon and the Kissing Hand. We learned that even though we are away from our mommies and daddies, they still love us very much!

Please note that the kids will start pouring their own drinks very soon...which means we are in for a lot of spills :) Be sure your child has extra clothing in his/her backpack.
We were able to snap a few photos of the fun during our crazy first week. Also, we have first day of school pictures posted on our Photo Gallery Page.

It's School Registration Time Already!!!

It's hard to believe that it's that time of year already...Didn't summer vacation just begin?!?!
Edgerton School District is holding registration for the 2014-2015 school year next week!

All district students grades 4K-12th are required to register on either Tuesday, August 5th or Wednesday, August 6th from 1:00-7:00pm at the Edgerton High School Field House.

Additionally, we are having a Parents' Informational Meeting for all our incoming 4K families here at Creative Arts on Tuesday, August 19th at 5:30pm.

Please note that we will not have childcare available during this time and prefer that kiddos remain at home so that you are better able to hear all the important information.

If you cannot make this meeting, please call us ASAP at 608-884-6162.

Please bring the completed paperwork that was mailed to you this spring. NOTE: We cannot take any students on the first day of school who have not turned in the paperwork. It's WI State Law. Thanks for your understanding! This is also a great time to drop off supplies so that you aren't feeling so overwhelmed on the first day of school.

During the Parent Meeting, you will have the opportunity to sign-up your child for a 4K sneak-peek session. The sneak-peek will be held on Thursday, August 21st. AM Class will be from 9am-10am and PM Class will be from 10:30am-11:30am.

This is an opportunity for your child to meet the teachers, meet fellow classmates and explore the classroom.
Again, the mailed paperwork must be turned in prior to attending the sneak-peek.

We are looking forward to a great year with you and your child!!!
